An 18-year-old Scottish teenager has tragically died while on holiday in Benidorm, Spain, leaving his family devastated and prompting warnings about the potential dangers of vaping products purchased abroad. The heartbreaking incident has sparked an outpouring of tributes from friends, relatives, and members of the football community.  

The teenager, identified as Harry Whitton, was enjoying a holiday in the popular Spanish resort with his girlfriend when he suddenly became seriously ill. According to his family, Harry suffered a severe reaction after using a vape oil he had recently purchased while in Benidorm. His father later shared details of the incident in an effort to raise awareness and prevent similar tragedies.  

Family members believe the vape oil may have triggered a serious reaction that caused Harry’s throat to constrict, leading to breathing difficulties. During the medical emergency, he reportedly vomited and aspirated into his lungs, resulting in fatal complications. Officials have not publicly confirmed the exact cause of death, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.  

Harry was well known in Dundee, where he worked in hospitality roles for both rival Scottish Premiership clubs, Dundee United and Dundee FC. Following news of his death, both clubs released heartfelt tributes honoring the teenager’s character, dedication, and positive impact on colleagues and supporters. Many described him as a friendly, hardworking young man who was loved by everyone who knew him.  

Friends and family have flooded social media with emotional messages remembering Harry’s kindness, humor, and infectious personality. His girlfriend also paid tribute, describing him as the love of her life and expressing the immense grief caused by his sudden passing.  

The tragedy has led to a fundraising campaign to help bring Harry’s body back to Scotland. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed it is providing support to the family and working with local authorities in Spain.  

The incident has also reignited discussions about the safety of vaping products, particularly those purchased while traveling abroad. Health experts have repeatedly warned consumers about unregulated vape liquids and the risks associated with products that may contain unknown ingredients.
